Institute of Coding: bridging the UK’s digital skills gap

The IoC is a consortium of 33 leading UK universities, 81 companies and 20 outreach organisations/ professional bodies, who have come together to help combat the lack of digital skills across the UK.

The Challenge.

It is estimated that we’ll need 518,000 highly-trained digital workers in the UK by 2022. The Institute has been created to address that demand and the variable employability within the UK. The IoC aims to develop the way students can receive a digital education, including work-based courses and apprenticeships, as well as boosting equality and diversity in tech-related education and careers.

The Plan.

To launch this new and exciting venture, the Institute of Coding needed an informative and attractive website, to help communicate their key messages and highlight the options available to potential learners.

To encourage a broader range of candidates, it was important that the design was fully inclusive and moved away from the typical masculine image of technology and coding.

The Results.

We created a vibrant and fun design with plenty of bright colours and illustrations, and the odd small wink to code within the headings.

With a number of different audiences to cater for, the website needed to host a lot of vital content plus also present key industry metrics to highlight the importance of this project, without being overwhelming to the reader.

The Institute is off to a fantastic start and their website has been shortlisted for a number of awards already. We’re excited to watch their progress over the coming years.
